Review

This an interesting program which we recently tested, which could be worth looking at. The idea is to help you create headlines that describe your product/service which can be used in sales letters (or banner ads, web pages, etc.).

The way it works, is you answer four simple questions about your product, and it generates a whole bunch of possible headlines. Of course how good the headlines are, will partly depend on how well you can answer these questions - but they aren't exactly tough ones (they are the kind of stuff you should already know or at least be thinking about - like what benefits your customer get from owning your product).

Once you've filled out the questions, you get a list of possible headlines (I got just under 100 in my test case). You can then display the entire list or choose to display only those headlines that fall into certain categories like "News", "How To", "Questions", etc. You can also select the headlines, and right click to Copy to them to the clipboard for later pasting into other Windows programs.

For my test, I entered some answers about an (imaginary) diet e-book. Here are the first few headlines that the program came up with:-
  • How To Lose Weight ...In Less Than 30 Days
  • Who Else Wants To Lose Weight In Only 30 Days?
  • Who Else Wants To Lose Weight And Lose 15 Pounds?
  • 12 Simple Steps To Lose Weight
  • To People Who Want To Lose Weight -- But Can't Get Started
  • To Men Who Want To Lose Weight -- But Can't Get Started

  • ...(and of course about 90+ more)
Additionally the software includes 3 bonuses features: a list of emotional trigger words/phrases, "hypnotic words", and some of the greatest headlines... all of which could help inspire you to produce better sales copy to promote your product.

There were only a couple of minor annoyances I ran across in the program:-
  1. Although reading the headlines is fine - when you attempt to copy them (for later pasting) - seeing exactly which headline was selected seemed hard on my screen (Windows default color) settings) - due to the choice of colors in the program. I got around this by copying all the headlines - but if you don't fancy this you could always retype the headline (after all, it's only one line!).

  2. I noticed in at least one case the headline seemed to be displayed slightly wrong. It looked like a programming variable had "leaked" into the final result. Hardly a big problem as all the other headlines were all fine, so really this is just a minor niggle.

Conclusion

We liked this program a lot. It is a great way of generating ideas for use in headlines (and sales copy), it's attractive, simple-to-use and fun.

And while there were a couple of minor niggling problems, we did not feel that they were serious enough to downgrade our rating.

Quite simply - definitely highly recommended, an Editor's Choice.
