Review

AllPosters is a free to join affiliate program where you can link to their poster store and earn commissions based on your sales.

The linking options include links to their home page, as well as links to the individual posters in their (very large) product range.

Perhaps the best part of their program is that (subject to their rules - please see their site) you are permitted to use many images of the posters to promote sales of the posters:
  • This is a major benefit, as it is easy this way for affiliate web sites about celebrity or music, to get lots of graphic content. In fact, I don't know of any other legal way where you so easily (and for free!) get the ability to incorporate pictures of such a wide range of film and music stars.

(Please Note: We are not attornies. The above paragraph is not intended as, and should not be construed as legal advice. Please consult an attorney if you need advice on legal matters).

  • As well as celebrity/music posters, the poster range includes a wide range of art pictures (great for fine art sites), and in my own surfing have run across posters that tie in with other sites' themes too, such as educational wall-charts.
Commission rates on posters are not of course that high - but in our experience, the posters do sell, and over time this can add up. To be fair, we haven't sent AllPosters that much traffic - but if you are able to send more traffic than we did (and I know that some celebrity/music sites attract massive traffic), you may be able to earn more than we have.

One other nice addition to this program, and a major benefit for affiliates, is an XML datafeed. With the right scripts on your site, it's possible to:
  • Set up your site to pick up the latest products automatically, and link them.

  • Set up your own affiliate "storefront" pages to AllPosters, allowing users to browse the products, without leaving your site.

  • Allow your visitors to search AllPosters, without leaving your site.
We used the XML interface (and our own customized PHP script) to code the posters feature on our Multiseeker.com search site. Try a search on Britney Spears or Rembrandt to see what I mean.

If you would like an off-the-shelf CGI script to install on your site which works with AllPosters, check out Cusimano.

Finally, AllPosters does have a 2-tier feature where you can earn a bit of additional money by recruiting other active affiliates. Of course, you're unlikely to get rich by earning a percentage of your recruits' percentages (so concentrate on your own sales), but hey, every little bit helps.

Conclusion

Overall I think this is an excellent affiliate program for celebrity, music and fine arts sites. The fact that posters do sell, and the access to graphic content are compelling reasons to participate in their program.

For other types of sites, I would check out the types of posters available that tie-in with the theme of your site, and if you find some good matches, join to promote these.

The XML feed is also an important and powerful feature of the program, which opens up tons of possibilities for affiliates (but don't forget that you'll either need to code your own script or get one from Cusimano to exploit this feature).

Overall I have no hestitation in highly recommending AllPosters' affiliate program, and in fact making it an Editor's Choice.
